The craft

5 steps. Many days. Endless patience.

A behind-the-scenes look at how each Lippan piece is born.

Sketching the design

Sketching the design

Every piece begins on paper. We draw the motif to scale — mandalas, peacocks, elephants, or something new for a custom order.

Preparing the clay
02

Preparing the clay

Our clay mix is inspired by traditional recipes from Kutch — a blend that stays soft long enough to work with, and cures rock-solid.

Sculpting by hand

Sculpting by hand

Ropes and dots of clay are rolled and pressed onto a wooden board — one line at a time. No molds, no shortcuts.

Placing the mirrors
04

Placing the mirrors

Dozens of tiny mirrors are placed while the clay is still soft. This is the moment where the piece truly comes alive.

Curing & finishing

Curing & finishing

The piece is left to air-dry for several days, then sealed and painted with natural pigments in warm earth tones.
