Painting Kart began with a camera, a lump of clay, and a wish — to share the quiet beauty of Lippan art with the world.
Lippan Kaam, or mud and mirror work, has been practiced in the Kutch region of Gujarat for centuries. Traditionally, women decorate the walls of their homes with reliefs made from a mixture of clay and camel dung, inlaid with tiny mirrors that catch the desert light.
What began for us as a YouTube channel documenting this craft has grown into something more — a small studio, a group of artisan collaborators, and a community of people who care about where their art comes from.
