Painting Kart began with a camera, a lump of clay, and a wish — to share the quiet beauty of Lippan art with the world.
Lippan Kaam, or mud and mirror work, has been practiced in the Kutch region of Gujarat for centuries. Traditionally, women decorate the walls of their homes with reliefs made from a mixture of clay and camel dung, inlaid with tiny mirrors that catch the desert light.
What began as a YouTube channel documenting this craft has turned into Painting Kart — a one-person studio, just getting off the ground. Every piece you see here is designed, sculpted, mirrored, and finished by the founder, over several days, by hand.
